Fall Leaves Bring Falling Down-Payments
In case you haven’t heard, FUBA Workers’ Comp is excited to announce that we have reduced our down payment to 10% (previously 20%) in order to help you write more business with us. A zero-down payment plan is available for those accounts with prior workers’ comp coverage when your clients sign up with one of our four approved payroll service companies. Your clients pay only the pro-rated expense constant and terrorism fee at binding. If the account is new in business or has no prior coverage, the 10% down payment is still required. If you would like to learn more about our approved payroll companies, please contact either PayCor, Inc. at http://www.paycor.com/, CPM Employer Solutions at http://www.cpmpayroll.com/, PayMaster, Inc. at http://www.paymaster.net/, or South Florida Payroll Services, Inc. at http://www.southfloridapayroll.com/.
Remember, we can now accept checks by phone for monthly premium invoices at no extra charge! Your insureds simply call our Accounting Department at 888-262-4483 and have their bank account information available.
We hope that these payment options will make it easier for you to submit more business and write more accounts with FUBA Workers’ Comp. You can visit our website for a new page outlining our Payment Plans for your agent kit. Please print it out, destroy the old one and replace with this version.
Earn an Extra 3% in Commission for an Entire Year
In July, any account bound with prior coverage (one year with a carrier, two years with a leasing company and no lapse in coverage) earned your agency an extra 3% commission, on top of your agency’s regular commission rate, for an entire year. Back by popular demand, we are going to give you another chance to raise your commission. Any account with prior coverage bound with January, February or March 2008 effective dates will earn your agency an additional 3% for an entire calendar year. Please email the Marketing/Sales Team for more details.
More Gift Cards are on the Way
Need help with holiday shopping? Start "shopping" your accounts with FUBA Workers' Comp!
Congratulations to those agents and CSRs who earned $30 Gift Cards in September for each account bound with prior coverage. We are continuing the celebration next month in November. Then, to help you with your holiday shopping, in December we are going to give away $50 Gift Cards for EVERY ACCOUNT BOUND! There is no prior coverage restriction on the December gift cards. Start thinking about your clients needing December effective dates and get them ready to submit to us!
GC’s Need Proof of Work Comp From Their Subs
Since April, the Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC) has been working on a rule that spells out what an uninsured general contractor needs to get from its subs in order to satisfy its obligation under Florida law to get evidence of either 1) a workers’ compensation policy or 2) an exemption from its subs. Since Certificates of Insurance (COI) are so easily forged, the DWC is trying to require extra documentation that corroborates the COI.
In summary, the state is requiring an uninsured contractor who hires subs to obtain the following:
- If the sub is insured, the contractor must get a COI and “written documentation” from either the agent or carrier confirming the coverage. “Written documentation” may include a screen print from the Proof of Coverage database.
- If the sub is exempt, the contractor has to get a copy of the exemption or a screen print from the Proof of Coverage database confirming the exemption.
The Proof of Coverage database is located at www.fldfs.com/wc. On the left side-bar menu, click on Databases, then click on Proof of Coverage Database. You can simply enter in the information to find the sub, then select “File” and “Print” to print the screen showing proof of coverage or the exemption.
If the contractor doesn’t get this documentation and the sub is uninsured, the contractor will be liable for the workers’ compensation on all the sub’s employees. He will also get a Stop Work Order and penalty assessed.

If your agency is located in the Panhandle, on the west coast or in parts of Central Florida, you have either met Ashley McWhirter, or have the opportunity to do so. As the traveling Marketing/Sales Representative for those areas, Ashley is constantly on-the-go, meeting and greeting the agents in her territory, and spreading good news about FUBA Workers’ Comp.
Ashley’s Southern charm comes from her roots, which are planted in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Ashley moved to Tallahassee in grade school, stayed through college and grad school at FSU, and has made Tallahassee her home. Her bachelor’s degree is in Interior Design and as you tour the FUBA offices, you can see Ashley’s influence on our décor!
Although Ashley began her position with FUBA in the Audit Department in 2004, in less than a year, her personable disposition, vivaciousness, and adventurous spirit quickly led her to the Marketing/Sales Department. If your agency is in her territory, Ashley is your “go-to” when it comes to questions or concerns regarding your agency’s current book of accounts and potential new business with FUBA Workers’ Comp. Please do not hesitate to contact her at any time.
Ashley does not like to stay still for long. When she isn’t traveling for FUBA Workers’ Comp, you can find Ashley and her boyfriend, Drew, fishing and enjoying the beach in Ochlocknee Bay, hunting in Georgia, traveling to South Carolina to see relatives and spending time with their Tallahassee families which include their two spaniels, Copper and Walker. “I love seeing my agents and feel grateful to have the opportunity to travel and meet them,” Ashley tells us. FUBA Workers’ Comp feels thankful to have Ashley on our team too. If you would like to meet Ashley in person to learn more about FUBA programs and sales incentives, please call our office at 888-262-4483.

After you receive a quote for a workers' compensation policy from us, one of the documents we require for binding is an original signed and notarized Florida Citrus, Business & Industries Fund (FCBI) Supplemental Application. This is a double-sided form that must have blue text on the front side.
By law, we are required to notify insureds of the potential assessability of the Fund. This language must be in a 12-point font and a contrasting color (hence the blue ink). Because of this, we require our agents to use only originals of this form - copies, print-outs, and other facsimiles are not acceptable. You may use a copy to bind, but we must receive the original within 7 business days from the effective date of coverage.
If the FCBI Supplemental Application is not signed and notarized, the policy will be subject to cancellation.
If you need this form, please email Erin Schaffer at eschaffer@fubaworkerscomp.com or give her a call at 888-262-4483.
